Appendix 3 – Stress Calculations
The ADR-Auto calculates stress as follows –
Cube, Cylinder/Core, Cylinder/Tensile, Brick, Block – Peak Load/Sample Area.
Beam – The stress for all sample types except the 40 x 40.1 x 160 beam is calculated using
the following formula –
Stress = (Peak Load x Roller Separation)/ (Width x Depth x Depth)
The calculation for the 40 x 40.1 x 160 beam is
Stress = (1.5 x Peak Load x Roller Separation)/(Depth x Depth x Depth)
Stress is not calculated for Flags, Kerbs and Channels.
Type R and S Blocks – Stress is calculated as peak load/plan area multiplied by a correction
factor which depends on the sample thickness and shape as follows –
