4.7.2.3 Dimensions
If the sample dimensions required are not the standard ones chosen when selecting
the sample type and size, they can be altered here. Select the required entry field
and use numeric keypad to enter the new dimensions. These new dimensions are
held by the ADR-Auto until a new sample type is selected. Remember to press the
Enter
key for the new value to be entered. The sample dimensions are used by the
ADR-Auto when it calculates stress.
Note that the number and descriptions of the dimensions fields will depend on the
sample type selected.
Thus when a Type S paving block sample type is selected, a
Plan Area
value must
be entered instead of the normal length and width as Type S paving blocks are of an
irregular shape.
For Type R and S Paving Blocks there is a
Factor
value shown which is used in the
stress calculation for the blocks. This can be altered if required. For details of its
use, see Appendix 3.
If the sample selected is a Beam, a
Separation
dimension is shown. This dimension
is the roller separation, and is used in the stress calculation for beams. This can be
altered if required. See Appendix 3 for details of its use.
4.7.2.4 Sample Density
The ADR-Auto will calculate the sample’s density from its weight in water and air. If
this facility is required, enter the sample’s air and water weights in the respective
fields. Otherwise enter the sample’s density in the
Sample Density
field. Use the
Escape
key to return to the
Initial Screen
.
4.7.3 Starting
Pacing
Once the ADR-Auto has been setup, it is ready to test a sample. Place the sample in
the load frame, leaving 5 to 10 mm of clearance between the sample and the top
platen. When ready press the
Run
key. The screen display will now switch to the
large character test screen and be of the form –
At this point the ADR-Auto’s main pump will turn on and the ram start to rise. The first
line on the screen shows the set pace rate, and the second line the load on the
sample.
The lowest line on the screen is the pace rate error bar display, which shows the
difference between the required rate and the rate achieved by the ADR-auto.
4.7.4 Automatic or Manual Load Tare
If the automatic tare facility has been turned on, the ADR-Auto will tare the load as
the ram rises. If the machine has not been configured to automatically tare the load,
press the
Reset
key just before contact is made between the sample and the upper
platen. Once the machine is under load, pressing the Reset key has no affect.
