13. FAULT DIAGNOSIS
In the event of inadequate performance, not envisaged on the data
plate or in cases where problems arise during the start-up and use
of the machine, keep the following table in mind. This can be useful
in finding solutions in the event of malfunctions or operating errors:
PUMP
Symptoms
Causes
Measures to be taken
The pump
does not start
The electrical panel does not
work properly
Check all connections and the
power system
Motor fault
See motor table
Anomalies in the power supply
Check and repair
Friction on the axis of rotation
Arrange for repair at a spe-
cialist workshop
Clogged pump and blocked
impeller
Remove foreign bodies. Free
the impeller
Priming does
not take
place
Foreign bodies in the base
valve
Remove foreign bodies
Base valve malfunction
Replace the valve.
Water leaking from the suc-
tion pipe
Check the suction line
The air enters from the suction
line or from the seal
Check the duct and mechan-
ical seal
The pump
does not
deliver
The delivery valve is closed or
semi-closed
Open the valve
The suction height is too high
for the pump
Check the project
Poor range
Incorrect direction of rotation
Correct the electrical con-
nection
Low rotation speed
Low voltage. Check the
power supply
Blockage at the base valve or
in the filter
Remove foreign bodies
Clogged pipe
Remove foreign bodies
Presence of air inside
Check and repair the suction
pipe and shaft seal
Presence of leaks in the de-
livery pipe
Check and repair
Impeller wear
Check the impeller
Large pressure drops in the
system
Review the project
Very high liquid temperature.
The liquid is volatile
Review the project
Cavitation
Consult the experts
Initially pro-
duces flow
but stops
immediately
The pump has not been primed
Prime the pump correctly
Air inside
Check and repair the suction
pipe and shaft seal
Presence of air bubbles in the
suction ducts
Vent the ducts
The suction height is too high
for the pump
Review the project
Current over-
load
The voltage is low or the phase
imbalance is large
Check the power supply
The flow rate is too low or the
head is too high
Partially close the delivery
valve
Pump for 50Hz is being used
at 60Hz
Check the plate data
Current over-
load
Presence of foreign bodies
inside the pump
Remove foreign bodies
The mechanical seal has not
been assembled correctly
Fit it correctly
