Insures stability prior to Rate Sweep
o
It is often convenient to run a time sweep on a material to assess its tendency to
degrade at the test temperature before collecting data as a function of rate.
•
PVC Example of Time Sweep
PVC is a particularly interesting material to run since, when its stabilizer package fails, the
material cross-links fairly quickly and shows a marked increase in viscosity. Comparing
runs made at different temperatures gives insight into the stable lifetime of a material in an
extruder at various temperatures.
