Adding USB and UART Devices
USB Devices
Currently Prodigy ONE features a single USB “Host” port on the main unit (labeled
*USB HOST”) which will directly support a single USB device such as a USB thumb
drive, Portable USB hard drive or Directus WiFi or 3G adapter. If you wish to use more
than one USB device, simply add a standard multiport USB hub to the single USB port
to expand the number of USB ports available on Prodigy ONE. Any standard USB hub that works with other
computers is fine. The USB port provides 5v USB phantom power to other USB devices from that port.
No special programming or settings on Prodigy ONE are required to add the USB hub.
Please note that the mini USB port (labeled “USB”) is not for connection to any consumer devices. This
is only for use at the factory for programming and diagnostics. Do not plug any devices into this port!
UART Devices
Prodigy ONE supports UART device compatibility for addition of certain optional
accessories such as Radar, Bluetooth, Vehicle Tracking System, etc. UART is an
acronym for Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter and this is a foundation on
which many devices can be engineered to work together in a common platform like
Prodigy ONE. The UART device connects to the UART port on Prodigy ONE. Besides
a physical connection for the UART device, your installer will also need to select and
enable the UART device in the hidden Prodigy ONE settings menu.
If your particular application already uses the UART port for a Prodigy ONE
accessory and you wish to add additional UART based devices (such as Radar,
Bluetooth, Vehicle Tracking System, etc.) please contact Directus technical
support or your authorized Prodigy ONE installer for expansion solutions for your
specific application.
