Removal and Replacement Procedures
3.1 Introduction
This chapter contains removal and replacement procedures for the field-replaceable
units (FRUs) in the DECbridge 500/600 series units. The modular design of these
bridges allows quick removal and replacement of defective components. The re-
placeable components are shown in Figure 3–1.
The maintenance strategy is to replace defective components to the field-replaceable
unit (FRU) level. Table 3–1 lists the FRUs in the DECbridge 500/600 series and their
Digital part numbers.

Lethal exposed voltages exist in the power supply.
Therefore, always disconnect the ac power cord be-
fore removing or replacing any FRUs. Do not apply
power to the bridge unless the card cage is fully inserted
in the bridge enclosure. Only qualified service engi-
neers should perform any FRU removal and replace-
ment procedures.
Some countries require that only authorized personnel
be allowed to connect and disconnect power to the unit.
