Conventions
The following conventions are used in this manual.

Contains general information.
Caution
Contains information to prevent damage to
equipment or software.
n
A lowercase italic n indicates the generic use of
a number. For example, 19nn indicates a 4-digit
number in which the last 2 digits are unknown.
!
A number in a black circle in text refers to
the corresponding number in an accompanying
illustration.
italic type
Italic type emphasizes important information,
indicates variables, and indicates complete titles of
manuals.
commands
Commands are shown in uppercase or lowercase
letters. For the VMS operating system, you can
enter commands in either uppercase or lowercase
letters. For the ULTRIX operating system,
commands must be entered as indicated in the
examples.
monospaced type
Text that the system displays on the screen is
shown in monospaced type.
bold monospaced type
Bold monospaced type in examples indicates user
input.
Return or Enter
The Return and Enter keys perform the same
function.
Return
A key name enclosed in a box indicates that you
press that key. In this example, you would press
the Return key.
Ctrl/x
Ctrl/x indicates that you hold down the Ctrl key
while you press another key (indicated here by x).
