Assigning IP Addresses to an Interface
Assign primary and secondary IP addresses to physical or logical (for example, [virtual local area network
[VLAN] or port channel) interfaces to enable IP communication between the system and hosts connected
to that interface.
In Dell Networking OS, you can assign one primary address and up to 255 secondary IP addresses to each
interface.

Enter the keyword

then the type of interface and slot/port information.

• For a 10-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
TenGigabitEthernet
then the slot/port
information.
• For a 40-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
fortyGigE
then the slot/port
information.
• For a Loopback interface, enter the keyword
loopback
then a number from 0 to 16383.
• For the Management interface on the stack-unit, enter the keyword
ManagementEthernet
then
the slot/port information. The slot range is from 0 to 1. The port range is 0.
• For a port channel interface, enter the keywords
port-channel
then a number.
• For a VLAN interface, enter the keyword
vlan
then a number from 1 to 4094.

Enable the interface.

Configure a primary IP address and mask on the interface.

: the IP address must be in dotted decimal format (A.B.C.D). The mask must
be in slash prefix-length format (/24).

if the IP address is the interface’s backup IP address.
You can configure up to eight secondary IP addresses.
