4. If your computer has an integrated network interface controller (NIC), run the NIC
diagnostics.
Double-click the
PROset
icon in the
Control
Panel
.
Click the
Help
button for instructions on how to use the diagnostics.
If the integrated NIC is not detected, refer to Integrated NIC in Chapter 6.
If the integrated NIC does not pass all the tests, refer to Chapter 7, Getting
Help, for instructions on obtaining technical assistance.
5. If your computer has a Dell-supported network card installed, run the
Network
Interface
test group as described in Running the Dell Diagnostics found later
in this chapter.
If the network card is not detected, refer to the documentation that came with
the card.
If the network card does not pass all the tests, refer to Chapter 7, Getting Help,
for instructions on obtaining technical assistance.

Observe the following cabling restrictions for 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX networks:
For 10BASE-T networks, use Category 3 or Category 5 wiring and connectors.
For 100BASE-TX networks, use Category 5 wiring and connectors.
The maximum cable run length (from a computer system to a concentrator or
hub) is 100 meters (m) (328 feet [ft]).
The maximum number of systems (not counting concentrators or hubs) on a
network is 1024.
For 10BASE-T networks, the maximum number of daisy-chained concentrators or
hubs on one network segment is four.
Check with your network administrator for specific information about your network.

to
