6 MESSAGE FORMATTING
6.1 Standard Message Formatting
The system always provides scanner to host data communication using the following message formatting:

For PowerScan™ BT8300 models with display, if the RS-232 interface is selected for communication between the Host
and the BC 8030-BT cradle, then the following additional communications between Host and Scanner can occur:

The Host can send messages to any associated scanner, to control the Scanner’s display, LEDs and beeper.

The Scanner can send up to 3 user-defined characters using the command keys on the Scanner.
6.2 Advanced Message Formatting
The table below describes conventions and definitions used in the examples on the following page. In both the table and in
the examples, formatting items valid only for the reader are shown in italics. The prefix C means the item is programmed
from the BC 8030-BT cradle, and the prefix R means it is programmed from the PowerScan BT8300 reader.
