Join ComSifter to AD Domain (Step 2)
The NTLM authentication method requires that the ComSifter become a member of the Active Directory
domain. By joining the domain, ComSifter can populate the username database with both usernames and
passwords—taking advantage of NTLM authentication like any other computer joined to the domain.
Note:
Join the ComSifter is only required if using NTLM authentication.
Note:
Joining the ComSifter to the domain is a separate action from making an LDAP
query to Active Directory (setup in Step 3a).

To properly join the ComSifter to the Domain Controller, ComSifter must know the following information:
Join ComSifter to the AD Domain
In this field, click
Yes
to join to an Active Directory domain, or
No
to remove the ComSifter from the Active
Directory domain.
Full Name of the AD Domain
In this field, enter the name of the Domain Controller. This may be:
A Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) (
myschool.com
)
A non-qualified name consisting of the machine name followed by the non-qualified domain name separated
by a period. In the screenshot above, the machine name is
comsift
, the non-qualified name is
lab
, thus
comsift.lab
. The non-qualified name is the root name, found in Active Directory, immediately under Users
and Computers.
