rotational position, and finally the locking air
cylinder locks the gripper assembly in the
exact rotational position.
12. Once rotated, the gripper moves the book to
the proper cutting position for the bottom
trim.
13. The bottom trim is performed by the knife
and clamp in the same way as described
earlier.
14. The gripper assembly rotates the book 180°
clockwise, in the same way as described
earlier. Once rotated, the gripper moves the
book to the proper cutting position for the
top trim.
15. The top trim is performed by the knife and
clamp in the same way as described earlier.
16. The gripper assembly rotates the book 90°
counterclockwise, in the same way as de-
scribed earlier.
17. The gripper transport then takes the book
back to home position.
18. At the home position, the book is released
and the conveyors start moving. The book
exits the machine onto the installed outfeed
device.
Additional Information

The trimmer also provides a shutdown
relay that can be used to signal other in-
line equipment that it is running or
paused.
Sequence of Operations
– Outfeed
Option 1: Vertical Book Stacker
1. As the book exits the trimmer, the rollers in
the upper tray move the book completely
into the upper tray. A sensor in the upper
tray detects when the book is completely
loaded.
2. An air cylinder lifts the lower end of the up-
per tray until it is level.
3. A second air cylinder lifts the side of the up-
per tray, allowing the book to be ejected off
from the upper tray and down onto the Verti-
cal Stacker delivery bed. If the book is more
than 1” (2.5cm) thick, a pusher assembly
powered by an air cylinder retracts slightly to
allow more room for thicker books.
4. A sensor detects when the book lands onto
the delivery bed.
5. Then a fingered gate powered by an air cyl-
inder drops down, and the pusher assembly
moves the book to the other side of the fin-
gered gate. A spring-loaded book stop
keeps the books upright.
6. The fingered gate returns to the up position
and the pusher retracts to its starting posi-
tion.
7. Books accumulate on the delivery bed until
the spring-loaded book stop reaches a sen-
sor at the end of the delivery bed indicating
that the Vertical Stacker is full. When the
Vertical Stacker is full, no more books are
delivered from the trimmer until the delivery
bed is cleared of books and the book stop is
retracted.
Option 2: Exit Conveyor
1. As the book exits the trimmer, the Exit Con-
veyor runs. The length of time that the Exit
Conveyor runs for each book is determined
by a time delay relay, which is adjustable by
the potentiometer found on the front face of
the conveyor.
2. Book accumulate on the Exit Conveyor until
they reach the sensor at the end of the con-
veyor. When the sensor detects a book, the
conveyor stops and no more books are de-
livered from the trimmer until the sensor is
cleared of books.
Option 3: Exit Chute
1. As the book exits the trimmer, it slides down
the Exit Chute and into a container placed
underneath the end of chute.
