V. PICK-UP/FEED SYSTEM
A. Outline
The printer is equipped with two pick-up sources, the multi-purpose tray and the manual feed
slot.
Whether or not the multi-purpose tray and the manual feed slot are loaded with paper is
detected by the paper-out sensor (PS003).
The main motor (M001) starts rotating in about 0.5 seconds after the engine controller
receives a pick-up command from the interface controller.
When the printer enters the initial rotation ready mode (See Note), the pick-up solenoid
(SL001) is turned ON for 0.5 seconds. The pick-up roller is rotated by the transmitted rota-
tional force of the main motor, and the pick-up cam rotates with the roller. When the claw of
the pick-up cam is unhooked from the lifting plate, the plate is lifted with the spring force. A
sheet of the paper pushed up by the lifting plate is picked up by the pick-up roller and trans-
ferred into the printer. The paper pick-up timing is the same for the multi-purpose tray and the
manual feed slot. If the both pick-up sources are loaded with paper, priority is given to the man-
ual feed slot.
