Faxes sent from the machine are spotted or dirty.
Cause 1
Is the sending fax machine working properly?
Remedy
Check the machine by making a copy. For more information, see Chapter 1,
“Basic Copying Features,” in the Copying Guide.
If the copy is clear, the problem may be in the receiving fax machine. If the copy
is spotted or dirty, clean the platen glass , the feeder scan area, or the read area
of the platen glass. For more information, see Chapter 7, “Routine
Maintenance,” in the Reference Guide.
Cause 2
Is the document loaded correctly?
Remedy
Remove the document, stack it if necessary, and place it on the platen glass or
load it in the feeder correctly. For more information, see “Placing Originals,” on
p. 1-32.
Documents are streaked with lines when they print on the other party’s fax machine.
Cause
Is your machine’s feeder scan area or platen glass clean?
Remedy
Copy a document on your machine and see if the document is streaked or dirty.
If the copy is streaked, clean the feeder scan area or platen glass.
Your documents are printed out at a reduced size on the other party’s fax machine.
Cause 1
Are your slide guides adjusted for the size of the document you are faxing?
Remedy
Adjust the guides to the size of the document you are faxing and resend.
Cause 2
Is the other party’s paper smaller than the size of the document you sent?
Remedy
If the other party is using small-size paper, your machine automatically reduces
the size of the document in accordance with the other party’s paper.
