General information for servicing the imagePASS
This section includes general information related to most service procedures, including how
to safely turn the imagePASS on and off, how to remove, open, and close it, and how to use
the service switches.
Power scheme
The imagePASS has its own power supply and AC power cable. To function, the imagePASS
must be connected to the copier and to a proper AC power outlet. The imagePASS will not
start up until the copier is powered on. Powering off the copier powers off the imagePASS as
well.
When you power off the copier, the imagePASS takes approximately 3 to 5 minutes to shut
down and power off. Always check the DIAG LEDs on the connector panel of the
imagePASS; when the LEDs go out, the imagePASS is off.
The imagePASS power supply supplies power directly to the motherboard and HDD.
From the motherboard, power goes to the CPU, UIB board, and chassis fan.
The imagePASS powers off and on by means of the copier power switch. The imagePASS
shuts down if it is disconnected from the copier. In normal usage, the customer can leave the
imagePASS plugged in to the AC power outlet and connected to the copier.
Before you perform service on the imagePASS hardware:
• Power off the imagePASS using the copier power switch.
• Unplug the imagePASS from the AC power outlet.
• If you plan to open the imagePASS while it is connected to the copier (
not
recommended
),
make sure also to unplug the copier from its AC power outlet before you open the
imagePASS.
Shutting down the imagePASS
Before you shut down the imagePASS, review the following information.
• Notifying the network administrator
Before you inspect or service the imagePASS, you must shut it down. Make sure that the
system is not processing or printing a job. Obtain permission from the network
administrator to temporarily shut down the imagePASS.
• Forcing the imagePASS to shut down
If the imagePASS is not responding, and it is not possible to shut it down from the copier
touch panel, you can force the imagePASS to shut down. Only force the imagePASS to
shut down as a last resort, after an unsuccessful attempt at a normal shutdown.
