When the “Could not complete installation correctly” or “Communication between the camera
and computer failed” message appears, check the items described below.

The EOS Kiss REBEL 300D is shown in the operation screens as “EOS XXX”.
Installation failed.

If you are using Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000, are you using
the computer under a user setting other than [Computer administrator] or
[Administrator]?

You cannot install software if a user setting other than [Computer administrator] or
[Administrator] is selected. Select the [Computer administrator] user setting in Windows
XP Professional or the [Administrator] user setting in Windows 2000. For detailed
information on selecting the user setting, refer to the manuals supplied with your
computer.

Have you installed the WIA Driver or TWAIN Driver?

Even if you connect the camera to the computer, installation is not completed unless you
have installed the WIA Driver or TWAIN Driver. Insert the SOLUTION DISK into the CD-
ROM drive and install the WIA Driver or TWAIN Driver before connecting the camera to
your computer.

Is the cable firmly plugged into its socket?

To complete the installation, ensure that the plugs on the dedicated USB cable are
securely plugged into the ports on the camera and computer when you connect the
camera to your computer. (W-11)
I have installed the software but the camera and
computer cannot communicate.

Is the driver installed?
➞
The driver is required for communications between the camera and computer. When you
use the SOLUTION DISK software to communicate between the camera and computer,
be sure to install the driver shown below appropriate to your windows.
• Windows XP/Windows Me: WIA Driver
• Windows 2000/Windows 98 SE: TWAIN Driver

Does your computer comply with these requirements?

PC with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me or Windows 98 SE preinstalled and a
USB port as a standard feature. (A-8)
* Operation is not guaranteed when a USB connection is used on computer systems
other than those listed above.

Are the camera and computer connected correctly?

Connect the camera to your computer correctly using the dedicated USB cable. (W-11)

Is the correct communication mode selected on the camera?
➞
To use the SOLUTION DISK software, set the camera’s communication mode to
[Normal]. If you are using the PTP connection in Windows XP, set the mode to [PTP] (W-
10).
