radio communications and related functions are working properly before
leaving the site.
To confirm that a station is working properly, you need to control elements of
the CRVW3 configuration, elements of the base station configuration, and
elements of the
LoggerNet
configuration all at the same time. Sometimes this is
coordinated through the use of multiple technicians at different stations that
communicate using voice cell phones or voice radios. However, another option
is to employ temporary versions of system components that are brought with
you to the station installation site.
For instance, when installing a CRVW3 station, bring a laptop running
LoggerNet
with a serial cable that connects to a base radio. This will be the
temporary “
LoggerNet
and base radio” station, and it will help to confirm
proper CRVW3 operation. When installing a base radio site, bring a laptop
running
LoggerNet
that can make a wired serial connection to the base radio
being deployed, and also bring a temporary CRVW3 device which will
communicate with the base radio and validate it. The amount of time saved by
having these temporary devices available can be substantial.
10.4 Deployment of CRVW3 Radio Stations
You should install individual radio-enabled CRVW3 devices at their field
locations by following the instructions in Section
(p. 33)
. After a device has been installed and powered, you should
confirm that it can communicate over its radio (Section
(p. 49)
(p. 29)
).
Using a temporary base station radio and laptop running
LoggerNet
, you
should confirm that
LoggerNet
can connect to the station and collect data from
(p. 80)
, for details about how to
configure and use
LoggerNet
to do this. Be sure to place the base radio more
than 25 feet away from the CRVW3 antenna to avoid interference.
Confirm the line-of-sight path to the permanent base station site (or repeater
station site). A CRVW3 end-node station will communicate with only one
remote radio station. If that station is distant, use a Directional/Yagi antenna.
Orient the antenna so that it points directly at the remote station. You may need
to experiment with antenna height to get the best link strength possible (see
(p. 71)
).
If the CRVW3 station will operate as a repeater station, see instructions in
When several or all of the CRVW3 end-node stations have been installed and
confirmed as working, connectivity with the permanent base station should be
validated at the base station location. (See Section
(p. 76)
.)
10.4.1 CRVW3-RF451 Deployment
When the CRVW3-RF451 is deployed as an end-node in the network, ensure
that is configured as a Slave device using
DevConfig
(p. 68)
.) From the
Settings Editor
tab in
DevConfig
, choose the
Radio
tab. Now ensure that the
