CRVW3 3-Channel Vibrating-Wire Datalogger
57
If the LoggerNet computer station will be co-located at the base station site, it
will connect directly to the RF407 with a USB or serial cable.
Refer to the RF407 manual for details regarding the setup and configuration of
the RF407 radio portion of the base station.
s.campbellsci.com/documents/us/manuals/rf407-series.pdf
Ensure that proper power, enclosure, grounding, and mounting options are
available for permanently siting the base station. An omnidirectional antenna
should be used, since the base station will communicate with more than one
CRVW3 station.
A serial cable should be connected from the RS-232 port of the RF407 radio to
the RS-232 port of the NL201 device. Refer to the NL201 manual for details
on how to configure it as a serial server:
s.campbellsci.com/documents/us/manuals/nl200.pdf
. Once the base station is
enabled via the NL201,
LoggerNet
will use TCP/IP to communicate with the
base station.
Once the base station is installed and configured, you will use a laptop
computer running
LoggerNet
at the site to perform a validation. Configure
LoggerNet
to use the base station according to the instructions in Section
Configuring LoggerNet for Connectivity and Scheduled Collection
(p. 55)
, and
confirm that it can connect to and collect from the remote CRVW3 devices.
This should be done
before
leaving the base station site and travelling to the
remote
LoggerNet
location.
If your
LoggerNet
computer station is co-located at the base station location,
configure the permanent computer station’s instance of
LoggerNet
per
Section
, Configuring LoggerNet for Connectivity and Scheduled Collection
(p. 55)
,
instead of the laptop’s
LoggerNet
instance
.
9.4.3 Configuring
LoggerNet
for Connectivity and Scheduled Collection
(CRVW3-RF407)
LoggerNet
will first be used to confirm connectivity to each CRVW3 remote
station through the base station. After connectivity to each station is in place,
LoggerNet
can be configured to perform automatic (scheduled) data collection.
In Section
Base Station Installation and Validation
(p. 54)
, the
LoggerNet
computer station was configured with a physical-layer telemetry link to the
base station (or it was directly connected with a serial cable). The
LoggerNet
software now needs to be configured with details about the CRVW3 devices on
your network and how it should connect to the base station. After that is
complete, the connectivity to individual CRVW3 stations can be confirmed.
Follow the configuration instructions given in Section
(p. 80)
, using the
IPPort
root device case (i.e., the
telemetry connection).
If
LoggerNet
connects to the base radio via serial cable, use the
ComPort
root
device case
.
, Physical Connection to the Base Station
(p. 80)
, if a USB-to-serial cable is used between the
LoggerNet
computer and the
RF407 radio
.
