Intended use
3.1
Proper use
This product is intended for the partial softening of
drinking and service water. It is also designed to
prevent malfunction and damage caused by calci-
fication in water pipes and the connected fittings,
devices, boilers and other equipment.
The performance specifications of the product must
match the expected usage conditions. For notes on
this, see the DIN 1988-200 standard as well as the
technical data in chapter 12 of this installation and
operating manual.
If the product is intended for a commercial appli-
cation, a BWT consultant must conduct a test and
issue an approval.
Operation of the product with regular function
checks and the execution of the maintenance meas-
ures required for the safe operating condition of the
product in accordance with the operating conditions
for planning and construction.
The mineral substance metering is used to meter
BWT Smart Mineral. Metering of Smart Mineral may
be necessary, especially for piping systems made
of galvanised steel.
3.2
Foreseeable misuse
A product not used for a longer period of time (7 days
in accordance with DIN EN 806-5) is not operated
as intended.
Non-compliance with the ambient and operating
conditions in the technical specifications in
chapter 12.
Failure to comply with the maintenance and service
intervals specified in this manual.
The use of unauthorised consumables and spare
parts.

Function
4.1
General
The BWT Perla hybrid is a simplex water soften-
er that functions using ion exchange. The prod-
uct is filled with organic ion exchange material.
During the regeneration process, untreated inflow
water is available via a bypass valve.
Regeneration is triggered volumetrically (depend-
ing on the quantity of water). This means that no
remaining supply of softened water is discarded
during regeneration.
The integrated water meter measures the water
volume flowing through and sends pulses to the
electronic controller. The controller controls the
drive motor for the piston metering pump, which
proportionally adds the active substance to the
water flow using the injection point.
With the original factory settings, using the mineral
substance metering device with BWT Smart Mineral
fulfils the requirements of the German Drinking
Water Ordinance. These settings are chosen to
achieve the desired process result.
The mineral substance metering device is equipped
with a built-in level monitor that automatically switch-
es the unit off once the active dosing substance has
been used up in order to prevent the metering pump
from running dry. In addition, a notification is shown
on the display (see empty notifications).
The metering amount is pre-set and does not require
adjustment.
