target radio options
To delete the existing key in the target radio, check the “Delete Replaced Key in Target Radio” box 8.
under the “Tactical OTAR” tab.
If unchecked, the current key will remain programmed in the target radio but will be removed from
the pick list. The target radio will continue to decrypt messages using the key but will not be able to
transmit messages using the key. Radio’s can hold up to sixty keys. If a target radio has reached it’s
capacity a new key will not be accepted.
Select where the key will be stored in the target radio with the “Key Pick List Target” drop box. 9.
Options:
Match Source Key
- The sent key will be stored in the same
Pick List slot as in the Source Radio. (Key 1 will be sent to
Key 1, Key 2 sent to key 2, etc.)
User Selected
- After selecting the key to be sent, the
operator will be prompted to select the target Pick List slot.
Default Pick List Target
- The sent key will be stored in the
Pick List slot selected in the “Default Pick List Target” box.
Radio has now been initialized to send encryption keys.

Set and load the Key Management Facility Radio Set Identifier (KMFRSI) to

Set and load the Target Radio Set Identifier (TGTRSI) between 1 and 9999999.

NOTE: If the radio will be used in conjunction with a standard OTAR system the
TGTRSI should be a unique number for each radio. It is recommended that the
TGTRSI be programmed to match the radio’s P25 ID.
Set and load Message Number Period (MNP) to 65535. 3.
Load a Common Key Encryption Key (CKEK) key. The CKR number of the CKEK 4.
must be between 61440 and 65535.
This number must match the CKEK number programmed in the Source Radio.
Load a Message Authentication Code Traffic Encryption Key (MTEK). The CKR

number of the MTEK must be between 1 and 61439. This number must match
the MTEK number programmed in the Source Radio.
