NOTE:
For information on protection options, protection operation,
switching criteria, and switching times refer to
For hot-standby and space diversity configurations, the ODU combinations are
assigned as primary (ODU1) and secondary (ODU2).
• The default
online transmitting
ODU is the primary ODU (ODU1)
.
• Online Tx status can be changed in the System/Controls screen.
• Both ODUs are online receiving, and the RX protection mechanism selects which Rx
source (ODU) to use at any time to send data to the line/customer.
• Transmit switching for hot-standby and space diversity is not hitless.
• Only the online Tx is operational for hot-standby and space diversity.
• Switching from the online to standby transmitter will not be initiated if the
standby transmitter has failed, or the standby Tx ODU has been disconnected.
• Rx path switching (voting) is hitless. The least errored data stream from the primary
and secondary ODUs is selected on a frame-by-frame basis within the IDUspe.
• Switching is not restorative, which means that when a fault condition has been
cleared there is no automatic return to the pre-fault online Tx ODU. To change online
status use the commands in System/Controls, or withdraw the ODU cable for the Tx
online ODU, which will initiate a remote initiated Tx protection switch to the standby
ODU.
• Except for a single antenna hot-standby link where an unequal coupler has been
installed, there is no operational need to return to the primary ODU.
• For unequal-loss operation, the low-loss side should be with the online Tx (default
the primary ODU).
• Where testing involves disconnection and re-connection of the ODU cable at IDUspe
front panel, such action should be limited to protection switch testing for the reason
connector mating surfaces can be damaged by arcing, and the arcing may cause
errors on other traffic transiting the terminal. For all other situations, disconnect the
dc power supply before ODU cable disconnection and re-connection.
