Depending on the date of manufacture, an additional drive
axle heat shield -B- may be attached.
♦
The shape of the additional heat shield depends on the engine
and on the date of manufacture.
♦
Mark the installed position of the additional heat shield -A- be‐
fore removing it.
– If equipped, mark the installed position of the heat shield -B-
to the heat shield -A-.
– Remove the bolts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the right drive
axle heat shields.
– Remove the bolts -arrows- and the left drive axle heat shield.
– Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission
flange shafts. Refer to ⇒ Suspension, Wheels, Steering; Rep.
Gr. 40 ; Drive Axle; Drive Axle, Removing and Installing .
– Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear
and push them both upward. Refer to ⇒ Suspension, Wheels,
Steering; Rep. Gr. 48 ; Steering Column; Overview - Steering
Column .
– Loosen the retainer in direction of -arrow-, push the release
downward to disconnect the connector -2- from the Power
Steering Control Module - J500- .
– Disconnect the connector -1- from the Power Steering Control
Module - J500- .
– Free up the wiring harness.
