Depending on the date of manufacture, an additional drive‐
shaft heat shield -B- may be attached.
♦
The shape of the additional heat shield depends on the engine
and on the date of manufacture.
♦
Mark the installed position of the additional heat shield -A- be‐
fore removing it.
– If equipped, mark the installed position of the heat shield -B-
to the heat shield -A-.
– Remove the bolts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the right driv‐
eshaft heat shields.
– Remove the right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft
and move it back.
– Place the -SMN372500- under the transmission.
– Remove the right flange shaft by attaching the -T10037- to the
final drive cover -arrow-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Replace the circlip on the right flange shaft.
– Clamp the flange shaft in a vise with protective jaws. Use the
new circlip -A- to press the previous circlip out of the flange
shaft groove.
– Check the right flange shaft seal for damage and replace if
necessary. Refer to

.
– Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip halfway with
Sealing Grease - G 052 128 A1- .
– Drive in the right flange shaft using the - VW295- .
– Install the right drive axle. Refer to ⇒ Suspension, Wheels,
Steering; Rep. Gr. 40 ; Drive Axle; Overview - Drive Axle .
– Install the driveshaft heat shield. Refer to
⇒ Fig. ““Driveshaft Heat Shield - Tightening Specification”“ ,
