4 APPENDIX A
4.1
Common Spanning Tree Protocol Commands
All commands in this chapter can be used in the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid
Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) daemons.
4.1.1 bridge forward-time
Use this command to set the time (in seconds) after which (if this bridge is the root bridge)
each port changes states to learning and forwarding. This value is used by all instances. To restore
the default value of 15 seconds, use the no parameter with this command.
Command Syntax
bridge forward-time FORWARD_DELAY
no bridge forward-time
FORWARD_DELAY
= <4-30> the forwarding time delay in seconds.
Command Mode
Configure mode
Default
The default value is 15 seconds.
Usage
The allowable range for forward-time is 4-30 seconds. Care should be exercised if the value is to be
made below 7 seconds.
Examples
AsGOS# configure terminal
AsGOS(config)# bridge forward-time 6
Related Commands
bridge protocol ieee
4.1.2 bridge hello-time
Use this command to set the hello-time, the time in seconds after which (if this bridge is the
root bridge) all the bridges in a bridged LAN exchange Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs). A
very
low value of this parameter leads to excessive traffic on the network, while a higher value delays the
detection of topology change. This value is used by all instances. To restore the default value of the
hello time, use the no parameter.
