2. Remove the cap screws securing the lower crankcase
to the upper crankcase halves; then using a rubber
hammer, free the lower crankcase and remove.
Account for two alignment pins.

3. Remove the secondary drive assembly; then remove
the secondary driven shaft assembly and set aside.
Account for one locating ring.

NOTE: Do not disassemble these assemblies
unless service is required. If disassembled, second-
ary gear sets will have to be reset for backlash and
gear contact (see Servicing Center Crankcase Com-
ponents sub-section).
4. Remove one cap screw from the right-side crankcase
and eight cap screws from the left-side crankcase; then
using a rubber mallet, separate the crankcase halves
leaving all components in the right-side case. Account
for a thrust washer on the crankshaft and flat washers
on gear shift shaft, countershaft, and reverse idler. Note
the location of two alignment pins.
