5.5.17.
Network Restore Time
This option allows you to select the elapsed time between detecting that the primary connection has been re-
stored and switching the unit switching back to using it. The options are 5
– 180 seconds or ∞ (infinity) if the
user requires the unit to stay in secondary mode until manually switched back to primary.
The Network Fail & Restore times should always be aligned when using backup. Otherwise the units will get
out of sync or not perform the switching between primary and secondary correctly.
Also with Net Fail/ Restore times having the capability of being reduced down to 5 seconds customers should
be advised that they should:
1) Establish the Primary Link first before enabling the secondary backup connection mode as there is a possi-
bility of one unit switching to secondary mode before the Primary link gets set up at either end (High possibility
of this happening on units configured with low Net Fail Times)
2) Disable backup on both ends of a link prior to dropping a Primary connection as there is a possibility of the
far end unit switching to secondary mode as a result of the its Net Fail Time expiring and switching to backup
before its primary connection can be manually dropped. (High possibility of this happening on units configured
with low Net Fail Times).
5.5.18.
Event/Alarm Logs
The Event/Alarm log option allows the event and alarm logging to be turned on or off. The default state is On.
If the event/alarm logs are turned OFF then no information such as alarms or unit events, will be logged. If this
setting is ON then all event and log information will be saved onto the unit until it is retrieved by the NMS or the
logs downloader utility.
It is recommended that if logs are not used, or the NMS is not used often, that this setting be turned to OFF to
avoid significant logs building up on the unit.
Event/Alarm logs
The user will be prompted to confirm that they wish to remove logs from the unit.
