Rack-Mounted
Equipment
Safety Guidelines
This device is designed to be operated as either a table-top or a rack-
mounted unit. If this device is to be placed in a rack, be sure to take
the following precautions before operating the equipment.
•
If the device is placed in a closed or multi-unit rack
assembly, the operating ambient of the rack environment
may be greater than room ambient. Be sure not to operate
the device in an area that exceeds the following ambient
ranges:
Operating temperature: 0 to 47 degrees C.
Relative humidity:
0 to 90 percent (non-condensing)
•
Rack-mounted equipment is cooled by air flow. Some
devices are equipped with a chassis ventilation fan while
other devices allow heat to escape through chassis vents.
Never restrict the air flow through the device’s fans or
vents.
•
When installing equipment into a rack, distribute the units
evenly. Otherwise, hazardous conditions are created by an
uneven weight distribution.
•
Connect the equipment only to a properly rated power
supply circuit. Each device has electrical ratings listed on its
rear panel that must not be exceeded. Connection of the
equipment to an under- or over-rated power supply may
cause damage to the equipment’s overcurrent protection
circuitry or to the supply wiring.
