Main and Backup Rings
Figure 3-2 shows both the primary ring (solid line) and the backup
path (dashed line). Note that the Rout Rx connects internally to the
Rin Tx and how the main ring loops through the MAUs and any
active workstations attached to a lobe port. An SL16 MAU only
allows workstations into the ring that are set to the same data rate as
the MAU. A MAU bypasses any lobe ports that do not meet these
conditions and all ports without workstations connected. SL16
MAUs also have self-shorting RJ45 connectors that short the Tx
output to the Rx input on all lobe and ring ports with cable
connectors removed. The DC connectors on the SL16 DC also have
this feature.
