Information for Safe Operation – FM
8.3.1 Inspection
Before installing the flowmeter primary check for possible damage due to improper handling during ship-
ment. All claims for damages should be made promptly to the shipper.
8.3.2 Classes

FM
!
The installation and start-up as well as maintenance may only be performed by appropriately trained per-
sonnel. The start-up procedure described here is begun after the flowmeter primary has been installed and
the electrical connections completed. The supply power is turned off.
!
The circuits in the flowmeter primary and converter are dangerous to touch. Therefore it is essential that the
supply power is turned off before opening the instrument.
!
Before start-up check to make sure that the installation satisfies the following requirements:
•
The flowmeter primary and converter must be grounded in accordance with the applicable international
Standards.
•
The interconnection cables and connections must be sized for the expected currents and correspond
to the requirements in IEC227 and IEC245.
•
For installations inside buildings the supply power is to be protected by a circuit breaker which must be
located in the vicinity of the flowmeter primary and be appropriately identified.
•
The connections between the flowmeter primary and converter may only be made with the cable sup-
plied by ABB Automation Products.
•
For safe operation it is essential to follow the instructions in this Operating Instruction.
•
Installations per FM must follow "Installation of intrinsically Safe Systems for Hazardous (Classified)
Locations" (ANSI/ISA RP12.6) and the "National Electric Code®" (ANSI / NFPA 70 Sections 504 and
505).
•
When the housing is opened the EMC and personnel contact protections are voided.
•
The surface temperature of the flowmeter primary may exceed 70 °C dependent on the fluid tempera-
ture.
!
It is essential that the Temperature Classes listed in the approval Paragraph 7.2.2 are observed.
