Implementing a motor temperature sensor connection
WARNING!
IEC 60664 requires double or reinforced insulation between live
parts and the surface of accessible parts of electrical equipment which are either
non-conductive or conductive but not connected to the protective earth.
To connect a motor temperature sensor and other similar components to the drive, you
have four alternatives:
1. If there is double or reinforced insulation between the sensor and the live parts of the
motor, you can connect the sensor directly to the inputs of the drive.
2. If there is basic insulation between the sensor and the live parts of the motor, you can
connect the sensor to the inputs of the drive if all circuits connected to the drive’s
digital and analog inputs (typically extra-low voltage circuits) are protected against
contact and insulated with basic insulation from other low-voltage circuits. The
insulation must be rated for the same voltage level as the drive main circuit. Note that
extra-low voltage circuits (such as 24 V DC) typically do not meet these requirements.
3. You can connect the sensor to an extension module with basic insulation (eg, FAIO-
01) or reinforced insulation (eg, FPTC-xx) between the sensor connector and the other
connectors of the module. See the table below for the sensor insulation requirement.
For sensor connection to the extension module, see its manual.
4. You can connect a sensor to an external thermistor relay the insulation of which is
rated for the main circuit voltage of the drive.
