(3) Setting the smoothness (torque) of the
drive for stage adjustment
The torque for x and y movement can be
individually matched for both mechanical stages.
They are factory-aligned to a medium value.
a) X-drive
•
Insert SW 2 mm screwdriver in the drilled hole
of nut (2-37/
3 ).
•
Hold drive for x-movement (2-37/ 4 ) and use
screwdriver to set the nut clockwise (greater
torque) or anti-clockwise (less torque) until the
required smoothness is obtained.
b) Y-drive
•
Insert supplied SW 2 mm screwdriver in the
drilled hole of drive (2-37/
2 ).
•
Turn drive (2-37/ 1 ) to the right or left until the
screwdriver clickstops in one of the holes of the
inside nut.
•
Hold drive for y-movement (2-37/ 1 ) and use inserted screwdriver to set the nut clockwise (less torque)
or anti-clockwise (greater torque) until the required smoothness is obtained.

The setting range of the torque for the x and y drives amounts to approx. ¾ rotations each.
Further movement in the direction of less torque will not result in a reduction of torque and
should be avoided.
To safeguard a long life of the stage, the scuff from the specimen holders should be removed at
regular intervals. Make sure that the scuff does not enter the guiding components for the x-
movement.
