3.7.
Internal Recorder
The following topics are covered in this section:
•
What is the internal recorder?
•
How does the internal recorder work with RiverSurveyor?
•
How do I set up the internal recorder in RiverSurveyor?
3.7.1. What is the internal recorder?
The internal recorder consists of a non-volatile flash-memory card located on an ADP electron-
ics board. Recorder storage sizes range from 128 MB to 1 GB (or more as technology improves).
The internal recorder is an optional feature within a RiverSurveyor system. The internal recorder
allows you to store data inside the ADP.
3.7.2. How does the internal recorder work with RiverSurveyor?
RiverSurveyor can use the internal recorder as an additional storage location for data files. Inter-
nal recorder considerations:
•
The internal storage of data can be done simultaneously with real-time data collection.
•
The additional storage provides a contingency in the event that files stored on your com-
puter are either damaged or lost.
•
Note that “external” data (e.g., data from a GPS, echo sounder) or user-input data (e.g., edge
distances) are not stored to the internal recorder’s files.
•
If you choose to use the internal recorder option, it is good practice to download all your
stored files from the recorder, and then format (i.e., erase) the recorder (to maximize its ca-
pacity) before starting survey site measurements. This can be done using the Recorder mod-
ule within SonTek’s
SonUtils
program.
3.7.3. How do I set up the internal recorder
in RiverSurveyor?
If an internal recorder is installed on your system,
you can enable/disable this feature via the
User
Setup
each time you connect to your ADP and run
River-
Surveyor
. It can also be displayed through
ADP Con-
figuration|User Setup
.
On the
User Setup | Advanced Settings
tab, use the
Recorder
dropdown list to select
Enabled
or
Dis-
abled
.
Enabled
stores data to both a file on the re-
corder and to a file on your computer.
Disabled
only
stores data to a file on your computer.
If the recorder is full,
RiverSurveyor
will display an
error message during the start of the data acquisition
phase. As such, it is good practice to download your
data and format the recorder before any measure-
ment period. This can be done using the Recorder
module in
SonUtils
.
