The system types and their individual features are as follows.
•
ADP
– Essential for all RiverSurveyor measurements. Communications must be established
with the ADP before you can set up the system. The
Properties
field accesses options to dis-
play incoming data, to troubleshoot ADP communications problems, and to
Go to ADP User
Setup
(after successful communications). See §
3.1
and §
3.2
for more ADP information.
•
External GPS
– The external GPS system is used when a separate GPS receiver and cable is
used to provide GPS information. This system should not be enabled for RiverCat systems
(systems using Internal GPS). The
Properties
field accesses options to set up additional
communications parameters, to read magnetic declination directly from the GPS string, to
display incoming data, and to troubleshoot external GPS communications problems. See
§
3.4.6
for more information on configuring the External GPS.

Internal GPS
– Internal GPS is used for systems that have a built-in GPS receiver such as a
RiverCat. A successful connection to an ADP with Internal GPS enabled must be made be-
fore the settings can be changed. The
Properties
field accesses options to enable/disable the
Internal GPS, to read the magnetic declination directly from the GPS string, to display in-
coming data, and to troubleshoot internal GPS communication problems. See §
3.4.6
for
more information on configuring the Internal GPS.

Echo Sounder
– Used when a separate echo sounder and cable is used to provide depth in-
formation in concert with bottom-track data. The
Properties
field accesses options to set up
additional communications parameters, to set the mounting depth of the echo sounder’s
transducer, to display incoming data, and to troubleshoot echo sounder communications
problems. See §
3.5.4
for more information on configuring the echo sounder.
The two additional controls in the
Systems
dialog box are:
•
Automatic Verification
(on/off) – When on,
Automatic Verification
will search for each sys-
tem when the communications settings have been entered. If systems were previously con-
figured, the next time the
Systems
dialog box is displayed, it will automatically search for
the system using the previous settings.
•
Go to ADP User Setup
– Use this control to display and make changes to the ADP system
settings. This control is only enabled after establishing communications with the ADP.
Show GPS Data
If GPS is available, use this op-
tion to show the
GPS Data Dis-
play
dialog box (
Figure 7-23
).
This box shows GPS data as it is
being received by the program
and is useful for examining the
causes of problems communicat-
ing with the GPS unit during
data collection. This box will
only function during data collec-
tion. Incoming GPS data may
also be viewed in the
Systems
dialog box when GPS communi-
cations parameters are being set.
