With the Serial Communications Cable, connect the DB-9 connector to the receptacle la-
beled 

SERIAL

 on the Processing Electronics box. Connect the other end of the cable to an 

appropriate COM port on your computer (typically the 9-pin port used for COM1).

Connect 24 VDC power supply connector to the jack labeled 

DC

 on the Processing Elec-

tronics box. Connect the other end of the power supply to a 120 VAC outlet. 

Caution

: The “Mini” ADP RiverSurveyor system (

Figure 1-2

) typically ships with a 

24 VDC power supply (or optional internal/external batteries). If you will be applying 
power to the ADP using a different external power source (e.g., automobile battery, vari-
able power supply, etc), be aware that the ADP requires a 12 to 24 VDC power supply to 
operate. Do not exceed the 26 VDC maximum or damage to the electronics will occur. 
Use “clean” power (e.g., filtered, no spikes).

Press the power switch (

PWR

) and verify its indicator light turns on.
