4. Drain the coolant from the engine block.
• On models not equipped with an oil cooler,
remove the coolant drain plug (Figure 5-17,
(1)) from the engine block.

5. After draining the engine coolant, flush the
radiator and engine block to remove any rust,
scale and contaminants. Then reinstall and
tighten the drain plug or close the drain cock in
the radiator. Reinstall and tighten the cylinder
block drain plug or reconnect the coolant hose at
the oil cooler.
6. Fill radiator and engine with engine coolant. See
Filling Radiator with Engine Coolant on page 19.
Adjust Intake / Exhaust Valve Clearance
Proper adjustment is necessary to maintain the
correct timing for opening and closing the valves.
Improper adjustment will cause the engine to run
noisily, resulting in poor engine performance and
engine damage. See Intake/Exhaust Valve and
Guide on page 67.
