recovery
Act of overcoming a problem or error during processing.
Typically, a specialized software recovery routine gains control
and attempts to resolve the error without crashing the system.
remote access
Access to a central computer by terminals or devices
geographically separated from that computer.
replace
Process of exchanging one portion of text for another. This
process encompasses two functions: deleting old text and
inserting new.
report
In setting a separation boundary through the Bin Full Criteria
task, report refers to a subset of a job (a job may consist of one
or more reports).
Reprint Manager
An application within the system software that allows reprinting
of jobs that have been saved through the Decomposition
Service.
resident fonts
The fonts that are loaded on the server at the time of installation,
and cannot be deleted.
resolution
The measurement of the number of picture elements (pixels or
dots) per square area unit.
ROM
read-only memory. Solid state memory for programs. It cannot
be rewritten.
router
A device used to connect networks of similar or different
architectures to isolate data transmission within each network.
Sample Job
A print file in a specific PDL format whose printed result is
known. The output of the Sample Job on a subject printer is
compared with the known result as a diagnostic tool to determine
whether the printer is working properly.
save
To store programs, data, or text for retrieval at a later time.
scalable (contour
or outline) fonts
A mathematical equation that describes to the printer how to
draw the characters of the font. Because only one equation must
be stored to produce a character in a variety of sizes, the amount
of memory that is required is much less than for bitmap fonts.
screen
The glass face of the video display.
scroll
Manipulation of a display to bring upper or lower portions of a
document page into view when no space is available for the
entire document at once.
scroll bar
Part of a window that allows you to view information extending
beyond the window display.
scrolling list
A pane containing a list of items. The list can be read-only or it
can be edited.
