Glossary
This glossary contains a list of terms for working with the Xerox
DocuPrint 100/115/135/155/180 EPS, and a definition of each.
A3
Paper size measuring 297 by 420 mm.
A4
Paper size measuring 210 by 297 mm.
abort
To terminate a program, printing, or nonprinting execution before
it is completed.
access
To retrieve stored information when it is requested.
account
A way to identify a job. An account can consist of a mixture of
letters, numbers, and symbols. If an account is not entered, the
system indicates “none specified.”
AIM
Ancillary IOT message processor. System task that initializes the
client layer between the printer and the controller. It also displays
the Fault, Hint, and information messages.
algorithm
Computational procedure that can be repeated any number of
times.
alignment
Positioning of an image on a page for printing.
alphanumeric
Set of characters including the letters A through Z, numerals 0
through 9, and all printable special symbols.
API
Application Programmatic Interface. An application protocol for
exchanging data between applications in synchronous (online),
asynchronous (store and forward), or batch (file transfer) mode.
APIs are fundamental building blocks of distributed client/server
applications.
AppleTalk
Network communication protocol inherent to the Apple
Macintosh operating system. The AppleTalk protocol for
operating over Ethernet is called EtherTalk.
applications
software
Host or LPS resident software that directs the computer to
perform specific tasks or functions as opposed to the software
used to operate the computer. Common business applications
include payroll, accounting, and inventory.
architecture
See network architecture.
archive
To send, to move, or to copy data to other media, for long term
storage.
