LPS COMPARISON
Software
The operating system software (OSS) includes support for the
hardware features described above, as well as the following:
•
Highlight color, including the ability to utilize tones of the
highlight primary color in forms, documents, and graphics.
•
The color capabilities of page description languages:
PostScript and HP-PCL through a front-end processor.
•
Two-color logos and color graphics images. A utility is
provided to convert existing monochrome black resource
files to any chosen 4890 LPS primary color.
•
Enhanced PDL and FDL commands include support for
highlight color features, including logos, edgemarking and
variable text.
•
Ink substitution, which gives the operator the option of
substituting another primary in a job if the specified CCU is
not available, or of changing the primary used in a print job
without recoding the application.
•
Xerographic mode switching, which allows the printer to run
in black mode (for printing black inks only), or in highlight
color mode (for printing black plus one other highlight
primary color).
•
Print quality adjustment (PQA) is a function of the OSS
designed to maintain the electrostatic charge state of the
xerographic subsystem to ensure optimum print quality.
LPS compatibility and comparison
Your 4890 running OSS Version 4 may print jobs created on
other Xerox Laser Printing Systems running another OSS.
Consider the following factors:
•
Are fonts required by the job?
•
Are font character sets required by the job?
•
Are forms required by the job?
•
Is the allocated size of the print file on the LPS appropriate
for the print job?
•
Is the current forms default appropriate for the print job?
•
Is the current graphics default appropriate for the print job?
•
Is the current font default appropriate for the print job?
•
Does the LPS have sufficient memory hardware for the print
job?
•
Does the Interpress set (Commercial or Publication set)
loaded on the LPS support the printing requirements of the
print job?
•
Does the print job request a finishing device?
•
Does the print job require a configured XPAF, HIP, or SDI
connection?
