TELL-A-GRAF, or CA-DISSPLA can use this interface to print with
highlight color on the 4890.

Xerox DCF and GDDM Interface

XDGI software provides an interface between the IBM Document
Composition Facility (DCF 3.2), the Graphical Data Display
Manager (GDDM 2.0) products, and the 4890 LPS. Xerox DCF
and GDDM Interface (XDGI) also provides a means of adding
highlight color commands to these data streams, and can direct
output from IBM products directly to the 4890, or to tape for
offline printing on the printer.

Third-party host software

There are a number of third party host application software
packages also available for use with the 4890.

Application software for IBM mainframe environments

Data stream information for several application software packages
that run on an IBM or IBM-compatible mainframe is included in
the “Application software data streams and connectivity”
appendix. All of these software packages produce documents
that print on a 4890. These packages allow the document
creator to place color in the document before it is sent to the
printer.

Note: The table in Appendix B indicates whether or not the
application may be used with a channel (direct) connection or
through a Barr/SNA (remote) connection.

Application software for DEC mainframe environments

Application software that runs on a DEC VAX/VMS mainframe and
Data stream information is included in the “Application software
data streams and connectivity” appendix.

PC-based software

With the optional front-end processor, the 4890 can process
print data in the form of PostScript, a page description language
similar to Interpress.

This allows your desktop personal computers or local area
networks (LANs) comprised of personal computers to connect to
the 4890.

Currently there are a wide variety of PC software packages for
desktop publishing and graphics. Those packages with the ability
to generate Interpress, PostScript, or HP-PCL 5 (Hewlett-Packard
Print Control Language) can use the 4890 highlight color
features.
