3.3.2 Replacing 2.5 inch drives
Table 3-17. 2.5 inch drive replacement overview
3.3.2.1 Removing a 2.5 inch drive
To remove the 2.5 inch SSD:
1. If you are replacing a faulty drive, locate the drive and verify that is in the
Decommissioned
state.
Important:
The replacement drive must be the same model as the drive that you
are replacing. Also, the disk must be completely empty, with no data and no
partition table.
Important:
If you are removing drives as part of System or Storage Node
replacement, skip steps a through f.
a. On the
ActiveScale SM Dashboard
,
click the
Resources
tab.
b. In the system image on the resources page, click the node with the faulty drive. The node will
have an alert icon, and the node status page will appear.
c. Scroll down the page to the components lists and click the tab for HDDs or SSDs depending on
which type of drive has failed.
d. Look through the list of drives and locate the faulty drive. The status column for the drive will
read
Degraded
,
Decommissioning
, or
Decommissioned
.
Note:
For more information about drive states, refer to the
ActiveScale OS
Administrator Guide.
• If the status is
Degraded
, the drive has displayed problematic behavior and will undergo
automatic repair. If the problematic behavior continues, the drive will be decommissioned.
Important:
Do not remove a drive in the
Degraded
state. If the drive returns to
the
Online
state, the automatic repairs were successful and no further action is
required.
• If the status is
Decommissioning
, the drive is either undergoing automatic repair, or is being
prepared for safe removal from the system. When it is safe to remove the drive, the state will
change to
Decommissioned
.
Important:
Do not remove drives in the
Decommissioning
state. If the drive
never reaches the
Decommissioned
state, contact Western Digital Corporation
