7.1  System Expansion Node kit requirements

Before purchasing a System Expansion Node kit, ensure that your ActiveScale system meets the 
requirements in this section.

7.1.1  Public Network IP address requirements 

System Expansion Nodes in the same local rack must be in the same subnet. Each System Expansion Node 
requires a host IP address. 

7.1.2 Multi-site deployment requirements

There is no requirement to mirror System Expansion Nodes across multi-site deployments. For example, 
you can install System Expansion Node kits in a single rack in a multi-site deployment without issue. 

7.2 Rack requirements

Ensure that your rack can meet the additional requirements for each added System Expansion Node:

• 1U rack space
• 27 lbs (12.2 kg) of additional weight
• 0.665 at 785 KBTU/hour of additional thermal output
• 230 W of additional power

7.3  Unpacking System Expansion Node kits

Table 7-1. Kit contents

To unpack the System Expansion Node kits: 

1. Remove the cables and mounting kit.
2. Remove the System Expansion Node.
3. Inspect each item in the box for damage.

Repeat this process for each System Expansion Node kit.

7.4  Installing System Expansion Node kits

System Nodes and System Expansion Nodes use the same installation procedure. Starting from the lowest 
U-space above the existing equipment, the install System Expansion Nodes from bottom to top.
