12.2 Maintenance to be carried out by the customer

Safety instruction:

There is a risk of an electric shock. Before carrying out any

maintenance, switch the machine off at the on and off switch.
Unplug the power plug.

12.2.1

Checking the needle plate

The stitch quality can deteriorate rapidly, if the lower thread gets stuck to the
needle plate. Remove the needle plate at regular intervals, see “Maintenance” >
“Removing the needle plate”, and check it for needle strikes.

Minor needle strikes on the needle plate can be removed using fine 800-grit
emery paper.

If the needle plate is severely damaged by needle strikes, it must be replaced.
You can order a new needle plate from our W6 Wertarbeit online shop (Spare
Parts category).

The following illustration shows an example of a severely damaged needle plate
that must be replaced.

Checking the needle / Why using W6 needles is

important

The hook system can be damaged by a defective or blunt needle. Using a
defective needle would ruin the appearance of the seam or lead to the lower
thread jamming.

If the needle plate is severely damaged by needle strikes, it must be replaced.
Please see “Selecting the needle” > “Inserting a needle”. We recommend you
use our high-quality W6 needles, which can be purchased from our W6
Wertarbeit online shop under the Accessories category. We can only guarantee a
perfect looking seam using an original W6 needle quality.
