The dash panel insert must not be dismantled. If necessary, the
dash panel insert is renewed as a unit.

1.2 Removing and installing dash panel in‐
sert - KX2-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Protective film - VAS 6773-
Note
♦ All indicator lamps in the dash panel insert - KX2- are equipped
with light-emitting diodes. Light-emitting diodes cannot be re‐
newed separately if defective. The dash panel insert must be
renewed.
♦
The dash panel insert - KX2- must not be dismantled.
♦ It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel prior to re‐
moval of the dash panel insert - KX2- .
♦
If a new dash panel insert is installed, all ignition keys must be
adapted.
♦ When renewing the dash panel insert - KX2- together with the
control unit in dash panel insert - J285- , select

for the respective control unit in
Guided Fault Finding
or
Guided Functions
mode ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
– Connect vehicle diagnostic tester ⇒ page 157 .
– Read current data from dash panel insert (coding, service da‐
ta, odometer reading) ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Removing
– Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and withdraw
ignition key.
– Lock steering wheel in lowest position.
– Loosen and remove gap cover of the steering column trim from
dash panel ⇒ General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr. 68 ;
Storage compartments/covers; Removing and installing gap
cover in dash panel insert .
