1TR6 D-channel protocol of the national German ISDN
Asynchronous Data
Transmission A type of data transmission that allows for different time inter-
vals between the individual characters. Transmission is con-
trolled by start and stop bits at the beginning and the end of
each character.
Baud rate The speed of data transmission
bit/s Bit per second, the actual user data rate
Picture A video picture that has been digitized at a given resolution
B-Channel ISDN transmission channel with 64 kbit/s
CCITT Committee Consultative for International Telegraph and Tele-
phone (today ITU), assigns communication standards (V.xx,
X.xx).
CTS Clear to Send: an input at the DTE that signals that the DCE is
ready to receive data.
D-Channel Control channel of ISDN with 16 kbit/s
DCD Data Carrier Detect: line used by a connected modem in order
to signal a valid connection with a modem at the other end.
DTE Data Terminal Equipment, e.g. a personal computer
DSR Data Set Ready: an input at the DTE that signals that the DCE
is ready to transmit data.
DSS1 D-channel protocol of the European ISDN, standardized by
ETSI
DTMF Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (tone dial): a dial process using
different tone frequencies.
DTR Data Terminal Ready: an output at the DTE that signals that
the DCE is ready to receive data.
DCE Data Communication Equipment, e.g. a modem
EAZ Endgeräte-Auswahl-Ziffer: used by 1TR6 to select different
ISDN units connected to the same S
