Connection establishment:
If a network connection is to be established, the telephone number of the remote sta-
tion can be entered directly into the edit box for dialling by NetCam. For ISDN, a check
box determines if only a single or both B-channels are used for the connection.
In addition to directly entering the number, there are three memory locations available
for speed dialling. The memory locations are programmed by double-clicking on the
buttons. All numbers may contain special characters which are filtered out before the
actual dialling process starts. A list of the previously used numbers is also accessible
by clicking on the arrow symbol at the right hand side of the edit window.
Dialling commences only after the ’Connect’ button (green telephone) is pressed. As
soon as the connection is established, NetCam will check for another NetCam unit at
the other end. In this case the symbol ‘Remote unit’ will appear in red and can be
clicked for checking or changing the configuration of the remote NetCam unit.
The LEDs labelled ‘B1’, ‘B2’ and ’M’ reflect the individual status of the ISDN or the
modem connection. Color coding is as follows:
By clicking the yellow field ’Local Unit’ or - during an active connection - the red field
’Remote Unit’ all parameter settings of the connected local as well as remote NetCam
unit can be checked or programmed, which is explained in detail in the followings sec-
tions.
Using external modems behind a PBX:
Using an external modem for connection over conventional analog telephone lines or
GSM works as described above. However, when operating a modem behind a private
branch exchange (PBX) some special conditions have to be taken into consideration:
PBX systems in general do generate a different internal dial tone, which is usually not
recognized by modems. This may cause the modem to block and prevent dialling out.
In this case disable the modem function ’wait for dial tone’ by programming the com-
mand ’ATX0’.
Under certain circumstances a PBX does not allow the complete number to be dialed
by the modem at once. Instead, a certain time interval can be required before an out-
side line is obtained, for example, depending on the particular PBX. In this case a di-
alling pause is needed after the access number for the outside line. Otherwise
characters can be lost which could cause connection establishment to fail. Using the
