Like any other CCD camera care has to be taken when installing and operating the
NetCamPlus ISDN-camera:
• Do not direct the camera to the sun. This may damage the camera even if it is
switched off.
• Do not direct the camera to extremely bright light sources. Horizontal and vertical
lines may appear in the picture. These interferences are typical for CCD chips and
do not represent any malfunctioning of the camera.
4.1 Lens
Lenses of size 1/3-, 1/2-, 2/3- or 1-inch with a CS- or C-mount connection can be used
on the camera.

Caution: When using a C-mount lens, an adapter ring must be screwed be-
tween the camera and the lens. When using a CS-mount lens, this
adapter ring must not be present.
For small illumination variations, e.g. indoors, a lens with a manual iris adjustment can
be used. The electronic shutter has to be switched to ’Auto’-mode, which causes Net-
CamPlus to automatically adjust the shutter speed to the scene illumination. Config-
uration of the shutter and other adjustments are described in the next chapter.
For automatic shutter operation flickering may occur with artificial lighting, causing
significant degradation in the coded and transmitted video over ISDN. A flicker-free
light source or a lens with an automatic iris function should be used in this case.
For large variations in scene illumination, a lens with video comparison amplifier (auto
iris AI) must be used. Connect the plug of the video comparison amplifier to the AI-
socket at the side of the camera housing (see also section 3.3.9 on page 33).
4.2 Adjustment of Back Focal Distance
Following the mechanical connection of the lens check the optical focus and readjust
if necessary. Connect a suitable monitor to the local video output.
When adjusting the back focal distance the lens aperture must be complete open, in
order to minimize depth of focus. Otherwise the focal point cannot precisely be deter-
mined, which would cause loss of focus for lower scene illumination and subsequent
