Motion Detection
All NetCam units have the ability to autonomously check the video input for significant
motion in the scene and to trigger an alarm in case the detected motion exceeds a
preset threshold. Motion detection is switched on by selecting the check-box ’On’, just
as described above for the other alarm sources.
Motion detection sensitivity needs to be adapted to the requirements of a particular
application by means of a slider. Sensitivity values range from 1 to 15, whereas a
higher value corresponds to a higher sensitivity. The current sensitivity value is dis-
played below the slider and allows for precise readjustment of a previously deter-
mined value. The best setting should be determined experimentally. It should be
noted that a higher sensitivity will result in a lower robustness against noise and/or
spurious motion in the scene and may lead to unwanted erroneous detections and
therefore an increased rate of false alarms.
Motion detection can be restricted to certain areas in the scene. Up to 242 square re-
gions can be individually selected in order to mask specific parts of the scene. Using
the buttons ’Set’ and ’Clear’ NCTerm only allows to set and clear all regions simulta-
neously.
For an individual setting of the mask an active connection with the ViewStation soft-
ware decoder is required. By clicking on the grid of the sensor fields, each region can
be individually enabled or disabled for motion detection. This allows for an accurate
rendition of areas in the scene, where irrelevant motion occurs, for example at an ad-
jacent street. The mask of active sensor fields is stored inside the NetCam unit. For
more information on configuring motion sensors and selecting the sensitivity refer to
the ViewStation manual.
Check list for the activation of the motion detection feature:
•
At least one alarm number has to be entered (section 6.10.1 on page 71) and as-
sociated to the motion detection alarm (section 6.10.2 on page 71).
•
At least one region has to be set (ViewStation manual).
•
The sensitivity has been set to a confirmed value.
•
Alarm has to be activated (button ’On’).
•
If the master alarm feature is in use, master alarm has to be active in order to en-
able all other alarms of the system.
