The fire extinguisher you purchase should be manufactured in accordance
with BS3 and tested and approved by the British Standards Institute.
Although Dry Powder fire extinguishers are very effective in extinguishing all
fires, they are not recommended for use in confined spaces, e.g. buildings,
especially caravans. The caravan Club along with other caravan
organisations recommends an Aqueous Film Forming (AFFF) – Class A and B
fire extinguisher.
The fire extinguisher should be checked at regular intervals in accordance
with the manufactures instructions. The life expectancy is between 3-5
years. Once deployed it should be returned to service even if it is not fully
discharged.
Fire Blanket
A fire blanket conforming to BSEN 1869 and approved by LPC or BAFE should
be purchased, and be fixed in an easy accessible point adjacent to the
cooking hob.
In Case of Fire
Get everyone out of the Caravan as quickly as possible using
whichever exit is quickest including windows.
Do not stop to collect any personal items.
Raise the alarm.
