5. Record Operation
As the quality of a recording depends largely upon correct setting of the record level, especial attention should be given to the process of level
adjustment (see also sec. 5.23).
5.1 Users in a
Proceed follows:
1. Connect the desired input source to the appropriate socket and
the input equipment on. All other input remain
connected, but they should be switched off. (Using the
Switch cut input in or out of circuit, appropriate.)

3. machine to desired tape speed, simultaneously switch-
ing on the power supply.
4. Load tape in sec. above and set Mode Selector ©
to the operating to be used in recording.
5. Press Record Button ® and hold down setting the Tape
Transport Switch ® to PAUSE position.
6. Press Counter Reset Key ® or note index number so that the re-
cording may be accurately marked for cataloguing.
7. Using the appropriate Level Controls @ and or © ,
adjust record level so that the record level meters © and © read
exactly 0 dB at the Programme passages to be recorded.
8. Set the Tape Transport Switch ® to START, and recording will begin.
9. Recording may be interrupted by switching from START to PAUSE,
but the machine will remain in record mode.
10. After recording one complete run of the tape, exchange the
right spool with the empty left spool and continue recording, des-
cribed above, on the second track(s). (In stereo Operation:
rewind tape, continue recording on tape.)
When recording from microphones, it is to monitor
(rather than through the loudspeakers) with the
MONITOR Switch in TAPE position. In that way the possibility of
acoustic feedback between microphones and Speakers (recognizable
by the and whistling noises produced) will be prevented, and
secondly, disturbing background noises may be detected immediately
and perhaps be avoided by altering microphone placement while
recording.
Upon completing the recording, the tape speed, recording mode
and Programme selections should be noted on the tape on
the tape spool and on the tape storage box.
