In tro d u c tio n
The T e k tro n ix R 434 O scilloscope is designed to m o u n t
in a standard 19-inch rack. W hen m o u n te d in accordance
w ith th e fo llo w in g m o u n tin g p rocedure th is in s tru m e n t w ill
m eet all e le c tric a l and e n v iro n m e n ta l characteristics given in
section 1.
Rack Dim ensions
H e ig h t. A t least 5 1 /4 inches o f v e rtica l space is required
to m o u n t th is in s tru m e n t in a rack.
W id th . M in im u m w id th o f th e opening betw een the le ft
and rig h t fr o n t rails o f th e rack m u st be 17 5 /8 inches.
D e p th . T o ta l d e p th necessary to m o u n t th e R 434 in a
c a b in e t rack is 18 inches. T h is a llo w s room fo r air c irc u la
tio n , p o w e r co rd co n n e c tio n and th e necessary m o u n tin g
hardw are.
M o u n tin g Procedure
T h e fo llo w in g m o u n tin g p rocedure uses th e Rack
A d a p te r A ssem bly and the in clu d e d R a c k m o u n t H ardw are
K it to insure m eeting the e n viro n m e n ta l characteristics o f
th e in s tru m e n t. I f a lte rn a tiv e m ethods o f m o u n tin g are
used, the in s tru m e n t m ay n o t m eet the given e n viro n m e n ta l
characteristics fo r shock and v ib ra tio n .
Use the fo llo w in g p ro ce d u re to in sta ll th e R 434 in a
rack:
1.
Remove th e in s tru m e n t fro m the Rack A d a p te r
A ssem bly in the m anner given fo r ca b in et rem oval in
section 4 o f th is m anual.
2. S elect the p ro p e r fro n t-ra il m o u n tin g holes in the
in s tru m e n t using th e m easurements show n in Fig. 6-1.
3. S lide the Rack A d a p te r A sse m b ly in to th e rack and
align th e screw-holes in th e Rack A d a p te r A ssem bly fr o n t
panel w ith the screw holes in the rack fr o n t rails th a t were
selected in step 2.

4. Secure the R ack A d a p te r A ssem bly to th e fro n t-ra ils
o f th e rack. Use th e a p p ro p ria te screws w ith a plastic
washer and fin is h in g washer on each screw fro m th e
hardw are k it p ro vid e d . See Figs. 6-2 and 6-3.
5. P o sitio n the b ra c k e t extensions (p ro vid e d in the h a rd
ware k it) over th e rear supports o f th e Rack A d a p te r
A ssem bly.

Using the Rack A d a p te r A ssem bly and the rear rack
rails as guides, loosely secure th e b ra c k e t extensions to the
rear supports o f th e Rack A d a p te r A ssem bly a p p ro x im a te ly
in th e ir fin a l p e rm a n en t p o sitio ns. R efer to Fig. 6-4.
